This newsletter features our program for the month of September
Each month, we feature multiple ballroom and club style dance classes at our studio in Charlottesville. Our group classes are open to the public and are 45 mins in length.  They are progressive classes, no partners required.  These classes are only $10 at the door or $8 with a student ID.  Or ask us about our monthly group class card!

We offer a variety of specialty classes at The Dance Spot through independent instructors.  These classes cover a range of topics including specific dance styles in both social partner dance, ballroom dance and solo styles.  Some of these classes will change topics every month.  Due to the nature of these workshops, pricing is unique to each.

Flamenco

Taught by Tracy Verkerke

Flamenco Technique and Choreography
Monday 6-7:30pm, September 9th to 30th
In this class, dancers will continue their study of Flamenco techniques and practice dance forms such as the Sevillanas, Alegrias, Bulerias, and Tangos. The cost for this series of four classes is $100, payable before the start of the first class. Dancers who miss a class may make it up by attending the Flamenco 101 class that meets on Tuesday nights. I will also offer a free make-up class for all registered Flamenco students on December 2nd. Flamenco 101
Tuesday 6:30-8pm, September10th to October 1st
In this class, dancers will work on basic Flamenco techniques and practice. They will start to learn dance forms such as Sevillanas, Bulerias and Tangos. We will meet on four consecutive Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:00pm, starting September 10th. The cost for this series of four classes is $100, payable before the start of the first class. Charlottesville Scottish Country Dancers

The music is exciting, the dance style is strong, vigorous, and disciplined! The figures and formations are intellectually stimulating! The social interactions are rewarding and can lead to new friendships. 
No partner necessary.  Pre-registration please.
Irish Dance
Wednesdays, 6:30-9:00pm
Taught by Jessie Baffa and Emily Cross

Note these classes are geared to children and young adults.
Preregistration required for these classes, available quarterly!
Learn to dance from Jessie Baffa T.C.R.G., Emma Cross T.C.R.G., and Megan Baffa, who all have experience competing internationally and touring the world with Michael Flatley's Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, and Feet of Flames. 
 
At the Baffa Academy, students are trained to dance competitively
under the worlds largest Irish dance organization, An Coimisiun Le
Rinci Gaelacha. Dancers are encouraged with professional expertise
to achieve their goals. Experience Irish culture, learn to dance, and
make new friends at the Baffa Academy of Irish Dance.
Tribal Improv Bellydance
Wednesdays, 7-8:30
Taught by Tara Tribal
In Tribal belly dance class we will learn a vocabulary of moves with specific cues in order to dance together as a group. Each class will consist of a warm up, drills, movement, dancing together, and a cool down.
Dancers of all abilities welcome, but no experience necessary.  $10/class.
Capoeira
Thursdays, 4:30-5:30pm Youth class
Thursday, 5:30-6:30pm Adult class
Taught by Roderick Davis
Roderick J. Davis (Instructor Balanço) began intensive training under the instruction of Mestre Panão in 2005 and within a year through hard work and dedication was able to bring Mestre Panão to his community to start Capoeira Resistência in Richmond, VA. For more than a decade Instrutor Balanço has studied and trained directly with, taught and traveled all over the US and Brazil with Mestre Panão. Through his dedication to training and his commitment to Capoeria Resistência and his Mestre, Balanço graduated to one of Mestre Panão's first American Instructors in 2015. He is continuing his training with Mestre Panão and is now teaching capoeira in Charlottesville, VA.


Bollywood Fitness

What is Bollywood Fitness? 
It's a dance-fitness program that combines dance choreography with the music from Bollywood. Inspired by a love for dance and Bollywood music numbers, this class combines dance with exercise to equal a fun way to work out!
Class format is a 45-minute cardio workout: changing intensity dance sequences will get you moving, sweating, and having fun at the same time. This workout not only tones your entire body but also burns serious calories. It's such a great way to release the stress hormones from the body and make you feel light and happy.
No prior dance experience req - just a positive attitude & the desire to have fun!

West Coast Swing Practica 
with Kristin Wenger

Date:  Sunday, September 15th, 6:30-8:30pm
Place: The Dance Spot, 109 2nd St SE, Charlottesville VA 22902

New date, just for September!  The Practica is an opportunity to practice your west coast swing dance moves and technique with others in a supportive, casual setting. All skill levels welcome, no partner necessary! Drop in anytime between 6:30pm and 8:30pm. The host, Kristin Wenger, will be on hand to answer questions, provide feedback, and offer help if requested. Or you can just socialize and dance! Beginner-friendly.
$5 per person
Bring your own water, ice and cups provided.

Welcome to Friday Fusion: September Edition!

Friday Fusion is an event for dancers who are proficient in their dancing and want a space to dance with other non-beginner dancers of all genres and be free of the confines of specific genre. This event is geared at dancers who have the desire to use their skill are leads and follows within partner dance to explore, practice, and break barriers within dance. Each month, we will have class taught by dancers of all different dance backgrounds, teaching a dance style, connection techniques, styling, drills and so much more. If you are looking to level up your already established dancing, this event is for you!
