Each month, we feature multiple ballroom and club style dance classes at our studio in Charlottesville. Our group classes are open to the public and are 45 mins in length.  They are progressive classes, no partners required.  These classes are only $8 at the door or $5 with a student ID.  Or ask us about our monthly group class card!

We offer a variety of specialty classes at The Dance Spot through independent instructors.  These classes cover a range of topics including specific dance styles in both social partner dance, ballroom dance and solo styles.  Some of these classes will change topics every month.  Due to the nature of these workshops, pricing is unique to each.

Flamenco 101-Technique and Choreography
 Mondays 5:30-7pm, 
Session 3: November 26th through December 17th
Next session will begin in January!
We will continue to refine flamenco skills of posture, por de bras and more complex heel work, palmas and castanets. Cost is $100 for 4 class series, payable on first day of class, cash/check, or can work out a charge. There is no drop in rate for this series.  Permission of the teacher or previous flamenco experience required.
Intro to Flamenco coming in January, on Wednesdays!
Indian Dance: Kathak
Tuesdays, 6:00-7:00pm
Taught by Priyanka Salona

Explore this traditional Indian dance! Priyanka's classes will be focused on Kathak, one of the eight Indian Classical dance styles hailing from North India. Classes will be a combination of technical exercises as well as choreography to pure classical and classical fusion songs.
Irish Dance
Wednesdays, 6:30-9:00pm
Taught by Jessie Baffa and Emily Cross

Note these classes are geared to children and young adults.
Preregistration required for these classes, available quarterly!
Learn to dance from Jessie Baffa T.C.R.G., Emma Cross T.C.R.G., and Megan Baffa, who all have experience competing internationally and touring the world with Michael Flatley's Riverdance, Lord of the Dance, and Feet of Flames. 
At the Baffa Academy, students are trained to dance competitively
under the worlds largest Irish dance organization, An Coimisiun Le
Rinci Gaelacha. Dancers are encouraged with professional expertise
to achieve their goals. Experience Irish culture, learn to dance, and
make new friends at the Baffa Academy of Irish Dance.

Taught by Roderick Davis
Roderick J. Davis (Instructor Balanço) began intensive training under the instruction of Mestre Panão in 2005 and within a year through hard work and dedication was able to bring Mestre Panão to his community to start Capoeira Resistência in Richmond, VA. For more than a decade Instrutor Balanço has studied and trained directly with, taught and traveled all over the US and Brazil with Mestre Panão. Through his dedication to training and his commitment to Capoeria Resistência and his Mestre, Balanço graduated to one of Mestre Panão's first American Instructors in 2015. He is continuing his training with Mestre Panão and is now teaching capoeira in Charlottesville, VA.

Come explore the healing art of SAMBA! ♥ 
Leave your inhibitions at the door. No previous dance experience necessary. Come ready to sweat, have fun and shake your booty! Remember to bring water!

Taught by Yoni Bliye

Join Yoni Bliye each week on Thursdays at 8pm. This technique class will focus on musicality, conditioning, and basic-to-intermediate transnational fusion technique. Attention will be focused on different parts of the body for a duration of time, so participants will learn to strengthen the isolation of those parts of the body in this practice. Participants will be asked to devote ten minutes total a day, more if they're willing, to reinforce the techniques taught in class. That will help students move forward as a class much more smoothly, and will enable Yoni to share more of his dance knowledge. 

Hip Hop Fridays!

Friday, December 7th, 7-8pm
Taught by Karine Morgan
Come join the fun and learn basic dancehall moves followed by a choreographed piece. Open to all levels, no experience necessary. Come dance to reggae and dancehall music, let's get into the groove. Sliding scale fee! 
What to wear: comfortable street-style clothing. Comfortable shoes.

Friday December 28th, 7-8pm
Taught by Dana Taylor
Your regular Friday shake-down/throw-down! This hiphop dance class is open to everyone who loves to move their body. We do a nice and easy warm up to start, then turn up the heat a little bit with some across-the-floor movement, finishing the class with some fly choreography that you can use in your next dance-off!!! 
The class on the 25th with be more of a dance jam than our usual class.
Bring a big water bottle and wear whatever you want to dance in.  We usually go barefoot.  Cost: $5-15 sliding scale.
Integral Yoga
Saturdays 11-12:30

Nightclub Salsa
with Albemarle Parks and Rec

Salsa is a form of social dance that originated in New York with strong influences from Latin America, particularly Cuba and Puerto Rico. Salsa is very popular worldwide and also right here in Charlottesville!  This class is ideal for those experienced dancers that are ready to challenge themselves and grow to the next level. Classes will be offered at an Intermediate/Advanced level. Students must dominate the basic patters. Partners are encouraged but not required.

Bachata Fusion
with Albemarle Parks and Rec
Dates: Mondays, January 28th-March 11th, 8-9pm (no class 2/18)

The Bachata dance style has its roots from the Dominican Republic, and its rhythm is highly popular today among our current club scene. This class will focus on intermediate/advance patterns, with influences from other dance styles like Salsa, Zouk, Argentine Tango, and more.  Classes are highly active, so basic knowledge of dance is necessary. Partners are encouraged but not required.
8 week session - fee:  $55 Alb. Co. Res.     $65 NCR

Kizomba Fusion Dance Party!
Dates: 2 Fridays this month, Dec 7th and 14th
Place: The Dance Spot, 109 2nd St SE, Charlottesville VA 22901

Literally meaning "party" in Kimbundu (a language native to Angola), Kizomba is a sensual, playful partner dance.  Here at The Dance Spot, we love Kizomba and hope that you will too!
Introductory lesson from 9:00-9:30pm, party until midnight.
We will play tons of awesome Kizomba music with a sprinkling of salsa, bachata, and zouk in the mix!
Light refreshments are provided but BYOB!

West Coast Swing Practica

The Practica is an opportunity to practice your west coast swing dance moves and technique with others in a supportive, casual setting. All skill levels welcome, no partner necessary! Drop in anytime between 6:30pm and 8:30pm. The host, Kristin Wenger, will be on hand to answer questions, provide feedback, and offer help if requested. Or you can just socialize and dance! Beginner-friendly.
$5 per person
Bring your own water, ice and cups provided.
